Revised college hoops preseason Top 25

1. North Carolina – The Tar Heels could have as many as four first-round NBA draft picks in their lineup with Harrison Barnes, John Henson, James McAdoo and Tyler Zeller. Then there’s point guard Kendall Marshall, who will likely be among the country’s leaders in assists. Roy Williams hasn’t been this excited about a team since the fall of 2001, when his Kansas squad featured Drew Gooden, Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison.
2. Kentucky – Unlike the past two years, the latest version of the Wildcats has a decent amount of experience to blend with its youth. Terrence Jones was one of the top two players on last year’s Final Four squad while Darius Miller and Doron Lamb played key roles, as well. The biggest stars, however, will probably be a pair of freshmen. Forward Anthony Davis and point guard Marquis Teague are both projected to be top 10 picks in next summer’s NBA draft.

2012 UK Target DaJuan Coleman to Visit Kentucky for Madness

DaJuan Coleman, one of the premier centers in the Class of 2012, plans to visit Kentucky for Big Blue Madness Oct. 15.
“He wants to go to Kentucky for Midnight Madness,” said a source with direct knowledge.
Coleman, who left today for the adidas Nations event in Los Angeles Aug. 5-8, was not immediately available for comment.
The source said Kentucky, Syracuse and Ohio State currently lead for the 6-foot-9 big man from Jamesville DeWitt High, and that Ohio State has made a big push into what was previously a two-team race.
“Ohio State, Kentucky and Syracuse are his top three, and Ohio State is moving in big,” the source said. “Ohio State’s done very well. He bonded with [Jared] Sullingerwhile playing at the Amar’e Stoudemire camp.
“He really likes Ohio State. They weren’t really on his list; now they’re right into the top three, as high as anybody. He and Sullinger are similar-type players  Sullinger is probably going to be leaving and he [Coleman] can fit right into that role. There’s nobody at Kentucky or Syracuse that looks or plays exactly like him right now.”

Enes Kanter wants to play basketball, considers China

All draft picks need to prove themselves in the NBA, but most enter the league having proven something to the general public. College stars have spent a great deal of time on our TV screens, other college players have at least spent some time as prospects, and most of the best foreign players face good competition at the club and international levels.
New Utah Jazz big man Enes Kanter(notes) is an outlier. A 19-year-old from Turkey, Kanter was set to play for John Calipari at Kentucky, only to be declared ineligible by the NCAA. So he hasn't played organized basketball for an entire year, and before that he was facing subpar competition for a prep school in Southern California. Kanter has lots of talent, but most scouts and GMs had barely seen him playin a competitive environmen efore he vaulted to the top of their draft boards

UK preparing for the pros to come back to campus

The University of Kentucky's basketball program is practically a professional program already, spitting out lottery picks in large quantities year after year.

But some of those lottery picks are coming back home and their presence could take the school's basketball program up another notch.

Kentucky coach John Calipari tweeted on Thursday night that three NBA point guards who played for Kentucky will head back to Lexington if the lockout continues. "John Wall, Rajon Rondo & Eric Bledsoe all plan to enroll in the fall if the lockout continues," Calipari tweeted. "Kaboom!"

Kaboom, indeed.
