UK men's basketball player Terrence Jones was named the SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday.
Jones, a 6-8 forward from Portland, Ore., averaged 23.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in games against Oklahoma, No. 13 Washington and UConn at the EA?Sports Maui Invitational. An all-tournament selection, Jones scored in double-digits in all three games in Hawaii, while posting double-doubles in two of the three games, including his second 20-10 game of the season. His 29 points against Oklahoma tied for second most points in a game by a UK freshman in school history. His 17 rebounds against Washington tied for sixth most rebounds by a freshman in school history.
The award is his second of the season. Last season UK won the award 11 times, led by John Wall's five, DeMarcus Cousins' four and Eric Bledsoe won it twice.
Jones was also named the Hoop Report's National Freshman of the Week. It was the second time this season he's received that honor.
