Candidates for the best player of 2012 are ...

The CBSSports.com college basketball team released our “Who’s No. 1?” package today, featuring columns on the top four players in the class of 2012. No one has separated himself as the clear-cut No. 1 player in the country, but one of them will come out of the July live period standing on top. 
We looked at Shabazz Muhammad, Andre Drummond, Isaiah Austin and DaJuan Coleman -- the four players who will be at the top of the class when CBSSports.com/MaxPreps publishes their rankings on Tuesday.
However, is there anyone else who could potentially crash the party and emerge as the No. 1 prospect in the class? 
Mitch McGary, PF, 6’10, Brewster Academy (N.H.): The fastest-rising player in the spring, McGary has the tools to make a run at the top spot. He has a nonstop motor and plays with reckless abandon around the rim.
Brandon Ashley, PF, 6’8, Findlay Prep (Nev.): If he plays hard consistently, Ashley has a great shot to make a move upwards. He has a tremendous skillset, with the ability to finish effectively at the rim and also run the floor. 
Rodney Purvis, SG, 6’4, Upper Room Christian Academy (N.C.): Formerly a member in the class of 2013, Purvis is a tremendous scorer who can get to the rim whenever he wants. He is also a big-time finisher.
Cameron Ridley, C, 6’10, Bush High School (Tex.): Blessed with great hands and good finishing ability, Ridley takes up space around the rim and knows how to get position. He needs to consistently dominate and stay in shape. 
Kaleb Tarczewski, C, 7’0, St. Mark’s (Mass.): Tarczewski runs the floor as well as any big man in the country and is also a very solid passer. He is developing post moves and can finish with either hand.
Ricardo Ledo, SG, 6’6, Notre Dame Prep (Mass.): Possibly the best pure scorer in the class, Ledo is impossible to stop when he is focused. Long and athletic, Ledo can really fill it up – but he does not give 100 percent consistently. 
Kyle Anderson, PG/PF, 6’8, St. Anthony (N.J.): A point guard slash power forward? Yes, that’s how versatile Anderson is. He passes tremendously well and has a great mid-range game. Not the quickest player, but he is efficient.
Archie Goodwin, SG, 6’5, Sylvan Hills (Ark.): Because of an injury he suffered at the Pangos All-American Camp, Goodwin could be on the shelf. When healthy, Goodwin is a smooth and athletic wing who attacks the rim.
