Cats defeat Boston University 91-57

Brandon Knight scored 23 points and Kentucky  bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 91-57 win over Boston University on Tuesday night. Terrence Jones added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats (5-1), who shot 59 percent from the field and overwhelmed the Terriers (4-4) over the final 20 minutes. Kentucky led by just seven points at halftime before opening the second half on an 18-3 run to break things open.

Kentucky coach John Calipari was on the sideline two days after the passing of his mother, Donna, who died on Sunday following a lengthy battle with cancer. The players honored her by sporting black socks, while Kentucky's assistants donned black suits and some fans -- particularly in the student section -- wore black T-shirts. Calipari thanked everyone for their support before the game via his Twitter and Facebook accounts, saying he was sure his mother was watching from "the luxury boxes with a whole crew of UK luminaries cheering right along with her."
Calipari called his team too "selfish" following an 84-67 loss to Connecticut in the finals of the Maui Invitational, a game in which the Wildcats were dominated from nearly the opening tip.

He urged them to communicate better on defense and share the ball on offense.
They did that after perhaps shaking off some late jet lag from their trip. Kentucky led just 40-33 at halftime as Boston hung around by attacking the offensive boards and harassing the Wildcats into careless turnovers.
Any hopes of pulling the upset and giving Kentucky its first losing streak under Calipari, however, evaporated during a blistering opening 8 minutes to the second half. The run started slowly with two free throws by Jones before the Wildcats really heated up. Doron Lamb hit a runner in the lane, DeAndre Liggins knocked down a 3-pointer and Knight followed with a pullup jumper following a steal by Lamb.
Knight drilled a 3-pointer on Kentucky's next trip before a layup by Jones and a 3-pointer by Darius Miller mushroomed the lead to 57-36. BU coach Patrick Chambers then received a technical foul and Jones hit a free throws, but the Wildcats were just getting started.
Josh Harrellson tipped in a miss by Jones then added a layup off a nifty no-look pass from Jones. Miller and Lamb added 3-pointers and by the time Miller converted an alley-oop the Wildcats were up 70-40 and could start thinking about a showdown at North Carolina on Saturday. Harrellson finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Lamb wound up with 13 as Kentucky knocked down 10 of 16 3-pointers.
A week after Calipari blasted his team for being "me first," the Wildcats had 21 assists on 32 field goals, including six by Knight. It was more than enough to fend off the Terriers, who came in with notable wins over Nevada, Cornell and George Washington but were no match when Kentucky hit the gas after halftime.

Terrence Jones was named the SEC Freshman of the Week x2

UK men's basketball player Terrence Jones was named the SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday.
Jones, a 6-8 forward from Portland, Ore., averaged 23.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in games against Oklahoma, No. 13 Washington and UConn at the EA?Sports Maui Invitational. An all-tournament selection, Jones scored in double-digits in all three games in Hawaii, while posting double-doubles in two of the three games, including his second 20-10 game of the season. His 29 points against Oklahoma tied for second most points in a game by a UK freshman in school history. His 17 rebounds against Washington tied for sixth most rebounds by a freshman in school history.
The award is his second of the season. Last season UK won the award 11 times, led by John Wall's five, DeMarcus Cousins' four and Eric Bledsoe won it twice.
Jones was also named the Hoop Report's National Freshman of the Week. It was the second time this season he's received that honor.

Could this be the origin of the John Wall Dance?

Everyone knows the Cats were in Maui right?? They took a few hundred fans with them (maybe a couple thousand). Mostly the ridiculous fans. One of them  stumbled upon a very disturbing bit of ancient evidence. The picture will prove that John Wall was not the first to break this flex move...

Maybe you have to be one of those ridiculous fans to think this was funny finding a John Wall  statue in the team's hotel garden in Maui?

Huskies didn't forget the loss to Kentucky in the Garden 2009.

Kentucky has the 8th youngest team in the NCAA field this year. UK's youthful roster will need to remember this game. If you don't come out of the locker room prepared to match your opponents intensity they will punch you in the mouth. UK is the biggest game on most every one's schedule. If you think UConn's head coach Jim Calhoun wasn't going to have his Huskies ready to avenge the 2009 loss in Madison Square Garden to Coach Cal then you too under estimated the intensity needed when the ball was tossed up.

Let's look at a bright spot before closing the book on the UConn game.
Josh Harrellson to Terrence Jones was one of the plays I will remember

Cats get stomped by UConn in the Championship Game in Maui.

The Cats came out flat and UConn rolls. Several factors that could have contributed to the sluggish start,  3 games in 3 days, the battle against the (grudge match) Washington Huskies was heated with emotions. Washington took a great effort from the Cats on Tuesday night in the semi -finals. The Championship game with UConn was not made easy with the early foul trouble on Jones and Miller. Coach Cal sit Jones for 9 mins of the first half to avoid a costly third foul. The results were too much to over come, Kimba Walker's awesome display of offense proved to be too much for the Cats this November night in Maui. UConn prevailed 84-67. Walker had 29 points 6 assists. UK Jones finished with 24 points 4 reb 2 stls 2 blks.

Cats survive the Washington Huskies and the 4.7 Earthquake

LAHAINA, Hawaii -- A 4.7-magnitude earthquake centering on one of the neighboring islands rattled tables and chairs, shook the stands, had the rims swaying back and forth. Few people at the game between Kentucky and Washington seemed to notice. They were too busy watching two good teams face each other.
Terrence Jones had a double-double against the team he spurned, Brandon Knight keyed two important runs on his way to 24 points, and the Wildcats (No. 9 ESPN/USA Today, No. 8 AP) shook off poor shooting -- and an earthquake -- to hold off the Huskies (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) 74-67 in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational.

Maui Invitational Update

Aloha from the Lahaina Civic Center on the beautiful island of Maui!

Day 1 we saw some fantastic action, high-flying dunks and great competition. In Game 1, Wichita State fell to Connecticut, who was led by Kemba Walker's 29 second half points, 83-79. Freshman Terrence Jones led Kentucky with 29 points as the Wildcats topped Oklahoma in Game 2, 76-64. Host Chaminade University played No. 2 Michigan State tough for 40 minutes in Game 3. Kalin Lucas scored a career-high 28 points as the Spartans beat Chaminade 82-74. In the nightcap, Washington tied a school record with 17 3-pointers as the Huskies beat Virginia, 106-63.

Today's matchups are as follows:

Game 5: Wichita State vs. Chaminade at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Game 6: Oklahoma vs. Virginia at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2

Game 7 (Semifinal): Connecticut vs. Michigan State at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN

Game 8 (Semifinal): Kentucky vs. Washington at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN

Two tickets to Paradise?

Could the matchup with the hot shooting Washington Huskies feel more like an NCAA tourney? The Cats should expect a perimeter attack and a fast pace game. If Liggins is available it should be an opportunity for the young Cats to gain some national respect.

Cats win: Terrence Jones, shows more toughness and a passion to win!.

Terrence Jones, looses a tooth in the first half and returns to make the difference. 76-64 Cats start strong but
let the Sooners hang around late. Doron Lamb played a great game hitting 2 big free throws late. Deandre Liggins was on the floor it seemed for every loose ball. Defensive stops late also helped preserve the win. Cat play the winner of Michigan St - Chaminade on Tuesday 4:30 HST 9:30 EST .

Cats first road trip destination the Rose Garden Arena Portland Oregon

The Rose Garden, commonly known as the Rose Garden Arena, is the primary indoor sports arena in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is suitable for large indoor events of all sorts, including basketball, ice hockey, rodeos, circuses, conventions, ice shows, concerts, and dramatic productions. The arena has a capacity of 20,630 spectators when configured for basketball; it holds smaller crowds when configured for other events. The arena is equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics and other amenities.

.

T-Jones is on the radar now.

UK Terrence Jones has been named SEC Freshman of the Week after scoring 25 points with 12 rebounds in UK's win over ETSU. Some of the sports analyst (Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports)  did not have Terrence in the top 25 freshman this year. They are going to regret that they overlooked T-Jones. He is the real deal, kinda reminds me of a young Masburn / Lamar Odem. It's going to be fun to watch this kids game grow!

Kentucky's next opponent the Portland Pilots. Portland Oregon Nov 19th

Kentucky 2011 recruiting may not be over, their watch list includes: Trevor Lacey

Trevor lit it up last night scoring 50 points for his high school team S.R. Butler.
Lacey is a basketball player who does a number of good things on the floor. He seems to always make the right play when not put in the position as the primary ball-handler. He never seems to hunt his own shot and always takes what the defense gives him. Over the course of his career he has shown his ability to knock down open and contested shots from the perimeter. Whether coming off screens, dribbling off ball-screens, or spotting up Lacey has a soft stroke with good range. Trevor is considering the following schools -Auburn Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats, Connecticut Huskies, Alabama Crimson Tide, Kansas Jayhawks. It's unclear if Kentucky has extended a scholrship offer to Trevor but, wow scoring 50 I'm sure got coach Cal eye.

ESPN Cowheard's comments about John Wall shows his ignorance: Mike DeCourcy Sporting News

http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/feed/2010-11/colin-cowherd

Eric Bledsoe producing great numbers and starting for the NBA Los Angeles Clippers

News: Bledsoe scored a career-high 18 points (6-10 FG, 0-2 3PT, 6-6 FT) to go with six rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block in 46 minutes Friday.

Spin: Bledsoe is averaging 12.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 0.7 three-pointers in 39 minutes through seven games as the Clippers' starting point guard. With the news that Baron Davis could miss several weeks with his current injury (lack of conditioning), Bledsoe is a good bet to maintain his surprising production over the long haul this season. Based on the Clippers' apparent realistic focus so far this season, we're betting on Bledsoe holding down the starting spot over the remainder of the season.

** NCAA rules Enes Kanter Ineligible ** UK to appeal decision**

The word is in, the NCAA has ruled Enes ineligible... With the negative news coming out late today it has cast a bit of disappointment on the BBM. However, I'm optimistic, the NCAA is allowing Enes to practice during the appeal process. Strange set of events, Enes was unable to practice before being ruled ineligible but now he can practice. I'm looking for the silver lining. I'm hoping that the NCAA had to rule him ineligible based on the reported $33K that was ruled above living expenses.  Some reports indicate that the Kanter family is prepared to repay the money to the Turkish Basketball Club. This could allow the NCAA to reinstate his amateur status. This may be what UK expected to happen all along.  This ruling may just be part of the process that will open the path for reimbursement and potential reinstatement.  I know I'm grasping at straws, having spent some time around this kid. I was impressed with his attitude, his effort and his family's sacrifices to preserve his amateur status. Time will tell... FREE ENES

College Basketball Season starts tonight!

CBS Sports Gary Parrish: Gary picks Kentuckuy as a 4 seed in the NCAA Tourney The season starts tonight with four contests featuring four schools projected to make the NCAA tournament against four schools projected to miss the NCAA tournament, which kind of stinks, but whatever. Would I like a CBS-televised matchup of top 10 teams to kick-start things? Of course (even if it had to involve a stupid pregame concert from the stupid Black Eyed Peas). But nobody at CBS has ever asked my opinion, and no one capable of making such an event happen seems all that interested in doing it. So we get what we get. But I'm just glad we're getting something. I can't wait to watch the season's first upset, to see who develops into a superstar overnight, and to feel stupid when some team I've sworn by stumbles in the opening month. Soon as that last thing happens, the inbox will fill with notes from readers telling me I'm terrible at predicting things, and they might be right. But rest assured, that'll never stop me from predicting things. And so with that in mind, let me leave you with a preseason Projecting the Field featuring Duke, Michigan State, Ohio State and Pittsburgh as top seeds.

UK Cheerleading Claims Unprecedented 18th National Championship

For an unprecedented 18th time, the University of Kentucky cheerleading team won the Universal Cheerleading Association's national championship at the 2010 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Kentucky won eight straight national titles from 1995 to 2002 before finishing second in 2003. The Wildcats then won three straight from 2004 to 2006, falling short in 2007 with a third-place finish. UK has since claimed the title the last three years. Since Kentucky won its first title in 1985, it has won in 1987, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 - more than any other Division IA school.

Wildcats take down the Bears

The Pikeville College Bears
The Bears were outmatched by the Wildcats tonight in Rupp Arena. Cats prevail shooting 45% from the field tonight with the score 97-66. Calipari goes with the smaller starting lineup early. Knight, Jones, Miller, Lamb and Liggins. This lineup provides the most speed and offense. Brandon Knight is good and I think Brandon will break John Wall freshman scoring record if he stays healthy this season. Wall had Demarcus Cousins to help carry the load. Brandon Knight will be asked to score more for this team.

Cat Stats Board
Brandon Knight- 22 pts 8-10 FG shooting
Darius Miller- 21 pts 11-12 FTs
DeAndre Liggins- 18 pts Defense Stud tonight
Doron Lamb- 16 pts

Big Blue Madness Terrence Jones Intro

Terrence Jones (T-Jones) comes to Kentucky from Portland Oregon. His college decision process was a drama filled experience,  in the end Terrence chose Kentucky and John Calipari dribble drive style. He should flourish in the open floor and has the post up moves that should allow him the play the post in a fast five lineup when Cal has to go without a traditional bigman (Enes Kanter).  Terrence is listed as 6-8 250lbs.

Big Blue Madness Enes Kanter Intro "The UnderKanter"

UK freshman Enes Kanter comes to Kentucky from Istanbul Turkey (via Stoneridge Prep). Enes is awaiting the NCAA ruling on his eligibility for the 2010-2011 season. The issue the NCAA is expected to rule on soon involves the amateur status of Enes. He played on a basketball club while growing up in Turkey. He was paid by this club as a 14, 15, 16 year old. The NCAA must determine if the monies paid was above and beyond the normal living expenses for Istanbul while playing for the club. It's been reported that Enes father was meticulous with the accounting of the expenses which could prove the case for Enes eligibility.

Enes is a big fan of the famous wrestler the UnderTaker. He has acknowledged his fondness for being called the UnderKanter. In the Big Blue Madness Event in Lexington Kentucky on Oct 15th 2010 Enes chose to make his entrance as the UnderKanter!
